The Egyptian Antiquities Registration Center celebrates its 67th anniversary

Today, corresponding to April 25, marks the 67th anniversary of the establishment of the Egyptian Antiquities Recording Center. On this occasion, learn about the history of the establishment of the center and its most important tasks.

The center was established on April 25, 1956, under Law No. 184 of 1956, to document and record Nubian temples before, during and after their rescue operation within the framework of the international campaign launched by UNESCO to save those temples before the construction of the High Dam.

Dr. explained. Hisham El-Laithi, head of the Central Department for the Registration of Egyptian Antiquities, said that after the completion of the process of documenting and recording the Nubian temples, the center carried out archaeological registration and documentation work for a number of archaeological sites in various parts of the Republic, as it documented and recorded a number of antiquities in Luxor Governorate in the Valley of the Kings and Queens, and the tombs of the nobles on the western mainland. He also recorded the tombs of Qubat al-Hawa in Aswan Governorate, in addition to the Temple of Hibis in the Kharga Oasis and Serabit al-Khadim in Sinai, as well as recording a number of tombs located in various archaeological sites in the governorates of Assiut, Minya and Alexandria.

Dr. pointed out. Hisham Al-Laithi The center plays a major role in providing scientists and researchers with the necessary scientific material for their studies, and benefiting from the recording work in the restoration work of antiquities carried out by the Supreme Council of Antiquities. The Center is also carrying out many projects during the current period aimed at preserving Egyptian antiquities, among which comes the preparation for one of the most important and largest projects, which is the dismantling and re-installation of the first edifice of the Ramesseum Temple in West Luxor, in cooperation with the Korean side, according to the cooperation protocol signed between the Supreme Council of Antiquities and the Authority. Korean cultural heritage in the past year; In addition to the completion of the documentation and registration of the Qasr al-Agouz temple in western Luxor, the completion of the removal of rubble and the restoration and scientific registration of the tombs "Ribo" No. 416 and "Samut" No. 417 in western Luxor; In addition to site management work for the two cemeteries in preparation for their opening for visits soon.

He added that the center is carrying out a project to document and record the Esna Temple in partnership with the German mission from the University of Tübingen, and record and document the Ramesseum Temple through the joint Egyptian-French mission, and document and record the "Babaza" cemetery, west of Luxor, within the framework of a joint Egyptian-Spanish-Italian mission. In addition to the project of digitizing the scientific archive of the center through the joint Egyptian-German mission with the German Institute of Archeology in Cairo, and recording and documenting tombs Nos. (123), (368), and (93), in western Luxor through the joint Egyptian-Brazilian mission, in addition to the Egyptian mission The Spanish joint in the valley cache in Deir el-Bahari, west of Luxor.

The center also carries out scientific publishing work for many scientific publications, as in 2022 it published a book in French entitled: "The Hall of the Osirian Columns in the Great Temple of Abu Simbel", and preparations are currently underway to issue a set of scientific books, including "Temple of Wadi al-Sebua" and "Tomb of User".
